Within the landscape of contemporary design, the Pietra L collection designed by Piero Lissoni for Salvatori makes a statement, demonstrating how everyday objects can be transformed into striking works of art. Through its artful fusion of function and form, along with the reverence shown for natural materials, it is the perfect expression of the philosophy shared by Lissoni and Salvatori.
Comprising around twenty home accessories, it includes pieces as diverse as trays, doorstops, umbrella stands, vases and coffee tables.
With a simple naming system that starts from L01, the collection grows each year with new accessories designed to add a touch of Italian flair throughout the home.
Piero Lissoni’s vision
Piero Lissoni is renowned not only for his innovative approach, respect for materials and admiration for past masters such as Mies Van Der Rohe but for his meticulous attention to detail and ability to approach stone as though it were a canvas, whilst getting the very most out of it.
His longstanding partnership with Salvatori springs from a shared sense of values and passion for natural stone and has led to the creation of a series of unique pieces where no detail has been left to chance.
“I wanted to work with Salvatori from the moment Gabriele showed me Lithoverde®, the texture made out of production offcuts. An artisanal approach and a passion for details
The Pietra L collection epitomises the synergy between the designer and Gabriele Salvatori, and represents a celebration of simplicity at its most sophisticated.
“It’s rare to work with a company that has almost a century of experience, with artisans who are like sculptors when it comes to understanding and working with stone” explains Lissoni. In fact, every element reflects the care only the best craftspeople know how to deliver, and which is synonymous with Salvatori’s history and approach.
In addition to Salvatori’s classic palette of neutral stones such as Bianco Carrara, Pietra d’Avola, Crema d’Orcia and Grigio Versilia, the Pietra L collection features more bold, colourful marbles including Rosso Francia, Verde Alpi and Nero Marquinia. Whilst stone is the predominant material, it is paired with others to great effect, such as steel, wood and even, in the case of the PL13 vases, glass.
A short tour of the collection
The PL01 trays are designed to double up as elegant side tables when paired with the PL02 iron support structure. Featuring a circular shape with a smooth surface that highlights the marble’s delicate veining, they are a perfect example of Lissoni’s ability to combine aesthetics and functionality.
With their sculpture-like forms and steel details, the PL06 doorstop and PL07 umbrella stand add a touch of elegance to any space, whilst homeware items such as the PL12 cake stand and platter and the colourful series of PL05 coffee tables are interesting talking points when entertaining guests.
The collaboration between Lissoni and Salvatori has also resulted in unique, modern and versatile pieces that combine the majesty and might of natural stone with the warmth of wood, such as the PL09 containers, PL18 trays and PL19 shelves.
The essence of multisensorial design
Piero Lissoni sees the home as a multisensorial environment in which every single element contributes to creating a refined yet at the same time welcoming atmosphere, and the PL11 series reflects this philosophy.
Comprising candle holders, fragrance diffusers and incense holders made entirely from Salvatori’s core six natural stones, PL11 injects a touch of design and understated luxury into any décor. The experience is completed by fragrances and shower gels with scents inspired by Pietra d’Avola and Silk Georgette®.
